My wife originally had cancer in the summer of 2013 and had all the treatment, Chemotherapy, Radiotherapy and a years worth of Herceptin injections.
In 2022 My wife began feeling off colour and breathless, the doctor diagnosed late onset asthma and gave her an inhaler to use.
In the summer of 2022 she had an x-ray as her condition hadn't improved and guess what, it wasn't asthma but cancer.
A CT scan followed and it was discovered that she had a large mass in her right lung, several smaller masses in her left lung, a mass in her liver and small spots of cancer on her spine.
She had the chemo therapy and now goes every three weeks for Phesgo, she is only receiving palliative treatment as the cancer is incurable.
The Phesgo has been good apart from the side effects, she has been getting a partial response, with the spine tumours vanishing, the liver and left lung tumours becoming much smaller, the only tumour it hasn't touched is in the right lung, it hasn't shrunk at all but hasn't grown either.
Also in 2022 she started to lose the use of her right (dominant) hand, carpel tunnel was diagnosed and she had the operation which did nothing as it wasn't carpel tunnel.
After numerous months she had nerve conduction test in the summer of 2023 and the first thing the consultant said was 'you've had radiotherapy haven't you' she said yes in 2014, it turns out that this is a side effect of the radiotherapy affecting a small number of people, it can take eight to ten years to appear.
We saw a hand specialist in December 2023 and he confirmed that there is absolutely nothing whatsoever that can be done, she used to cycle and play the church organ, two of her great loves, no longer.
The current cancer doesn't really bother her, apart from the side effects of the treatment, the hand issue however, really gets to her, she only had the radiotherapy to keep me and her friends happy.
So we come to me, I was doing ok at the start of 2023 with regular YouTube tutorials, it was towards the spring that we found out that the current cancer is incurable and that really knocked my duck off, I lost interest in all sorts of things, including crafting and started to drink quite heavily.
2024 however is a new year, a blank slate if you will, so let's crack on!
Hi Ian, I am so sorry to hear this. Hopefully 2024 will be a bit easier for you both. I will look forward to seeing your tutorials when you have time. 💙🙏🙏
